sore eyes
Morning everyone. Thought I'd check on here before going to the vets.......Pepper has got very sore eyes with a discharge at the mo....and was wondering if anyone else had had this and if so is there anything I can do at home to ease it or is it a vet job? She's had it since Fri night and it seems to be getting worse. She's rubbing at her eyes alot and even whining at times. Any feedback much appreciated.

she may have conjuctivitis, if there's a discharge on both sides. some people recommend bathing with cold black tea. you can also use Brolene on dogs.... however.... eyes are such difficult things and if she's scratching at them she might end up scratching the eye itself and developing an ulcer, which can be very serious. In that case, putting in eye drops (even dog ones) can make things worse - as I found to my cost with Boney. As the vets will presumably be closed today, I guess you could try a little cold tea to see if that soothes her - and then give the vet a call in the morning. but I stress that I'm no vet, of course  definitely try to stop her scratching her eyes as this could make things a lot worse good luck

Sore eyes
My two had conjunctivitis a couple of weeks ago along with me. Having checked with my vet we all had a mild dose of Chloramphenicol ointment which lives well in the fridge and can be re-used as long as the stuff isn't in contact with anything else. I used a mini gauze swab to apply each dose and we're all well again. I hope your puppy feels better by now. Cathyx

Sore eyes!
Hi, I have a lab whos feeling a bit sorry for herself, she has bloodshot eyes with a bit of green gunk coming out, quite a few times a day. I have tried to soothe her with a cold compress and she likes that! I obviously need to take her to the vet but was wondering what it could be and what else can I do in the meantime to help her? Many thanks Kathryn (Owner of Mollie)

Willow had gunky eyes a while ago also but there were not bothering her at all. I used Brolene on her for a day or so and her eyes cleared up but as Elaine has advised, be careful. Obviously Willow's was very mild because after a couple of doses, she was ok.

Hi Sounds like what pepper had. We ended up at the vets after a few days as she looked very sad. Turns out it was an infection. She had to have 2 drops of medicine in each eye three times a day for a week. After a couple of days her eyes were back to normal and all ok now. Def. get lab to the vets. Anita
