So sad
Hi. Not sure if this is the right place to post this. I am so very sad tonight I have been dog walking a lovely oldie choc lab for the last year. Today was her last walk with me. She had been poorly for a while (renal failure) she has been on lots of meds to try and make things more comfortable. Tonight her owner rang, to say sadly she went to the bridge this afternoon. I went to see her owner, we chatted. It was clear on her walk today, she had had enough. I will miss you Susie!! you were so funny and so kind to to everyone and everything, a credit to your breed. Hi Jayne I'm sure everyone on the forum really feels for you :( . It's so sad when we have to say goodbye to our canine friends and family members - and our time with them seems so short. The only consolation is that Susie had her owner and you who cared for her - and of course the world is full of both humans and other animals who aren't so fortunate and who have no-one looking out for them. I find it also a consolation that when animals come to the end of their days, we can take medical advice and end their suffering - which of course we can't do with our elderly relatives, much as some of us have been in the position in which we wish we could. Thinking of Susie, of you and of her owner.... run free at the bridge, Susie

Stopped crying today
Hi Elaine. Thankyou for your post, I feel better today. I have been up to my local rescue this morning in the worst rain ever!! to do my volunteer dog walking, as I do most fridays. I was met with some great news, that three of the dogs on the block I work with, will all be going to there new homes sometime in the next few days. One a collie who has been at the home about a year to 18 months. It did rather put things in to perspective. Thanks again Jayne.

That is very sad news as she sounded a lovely dog. Great news about the rescue dogs getting new homes though 8) So are the new owners thinking about getting another Lab ? Lucy xx

Hi Jayne So sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our elderly black Lab in September and it's been so hard. Thankfully our new pup came to live with us 6 weeks after and obviously he's not a replacement because no other dog will be like our Bess, but he has kept us very busy! You really are so lucky that you get to meet all the other dogs you take for walkies - and they are lucky to have you! xx

Hi All. What a nice bunch you are!! It has made me feel so much better talking about my feelings on line. Don't like always talking face to face with friends, especially about dogs, as not many of my friends feel as I do about anything canine. When I was talking to Susie's owner yesterday, she did say that she would get another dog eventually. She will be moving in the summer. so says she will think maybe then. She also said she would look to maybe taking a rescue lab. Jayne x

RIP Susie.

Hope Susie's owner doesn't move too far away from you Jayne, it would be nice if you could get close to the new dog if she gets one! Fingers crossed. X

Hi Lisa. was walking Jess the other choc lab I take out today, she was wondering where her pal was. ( They live opposite) I Have'nt been walking Jess that long, but her and susie were great together. Jess looked for sues at her house, but I just carried on walking to our fav woodland walk. I stopped at a spot in the woodland, where susie would always stop and have a good sniff, I tied a special message with ribbon to a tree there. Jess seemed to know somehow how I was feeling, she did'nt leave my side for the rest of the walk. (she normally runs and bounces around all the time) I am not sure where susie's owner will be moving, she moves with the job that she does. I did'nt think that I would feel this emotional about a dog that was'nt mine. Jayne x
