New pup
HI Everyone, we rehomed murphy now max 8 days ago and we would just like to say thank you to sue and judy for matching him up to us.Hes settling in just fine, my other labx cassie has put him in his place and they are getting along just fine :D , Being only 6months old he is a typical pup be it abit boistrous at times but nothing he wont grow out off or that we cant cope with, his favourite game is to pinch your socks and hide under the bed with them.We dont think he has had much socialisation with the outside world as he seems to be scared of most thing but we are overcoming this with food titbits We managed housetraining in 4 days and now he will ask to go out when he needs to unless its raining then he have to go with him(yep hes a lab that doesnt like getting wet).Hes really good at night too hes been going to bed and settling down straight away and not getting up for 6 hours, which im told by judy is really good for his age.At the moment we are teaching him that the ironing board, floor mop and hoover arent things he needs to attack whenever we use them but this is coming along well-again dont think he'd ever come across these before. He is such a loving boy, for the first few days he wolfed his food down like he'd never been fed but now he takes his time and when hes finished he asks to go out straight away.We have found that now hes settling in he will steal food of the side when your back is turned but he has stopped snatching it out of your hand which is good.We cant wait to go to training classes with him in a few weeks time and will let you know how he gets on.As soon as i know how to post a pic i will.bye for now.

Hi there It's lovely to hear that Max is settling in so well. :D The food-stealing will be something he porbably can't help - a basic, hard-wired survival instinct that tells him 'if there's food, eat it now'. If he's ever gone hungry in his life - even just being pushed off his mum's teats by bigger puppies in the litter - it may be a strong instinct for him. :? He can learn that it's not safe to do it while you're watching but that old instinct may keep telling him that if no-one's looking, it's the obvious and natural thing to do  Do post some photos when you can :D

O he sounds lovely! All the stealing etc - just normal pup behaviour but really, general lab behaviour too - they really just love FOOD - of any kind and whether they are hungry or not - down the hatch it goes! Good job they like lots of exercise really - burn off all the extra calories they steal! Our Bess was the worse - she was a total scavenger and we daren't leave the garage door open - she'd been in lab heaven raiding the bins and then we'd be at the vets the next day because she had really upset stomach and was old and needed help to fight the delly belly she'd given herself! Bless her - we do miss her!

He sounds lovely,Post a photo when you have time.We would all love to see him.

suzic- 11-21-2007

I dont know how to post the pictures i have can someone please explain

craskehouse- 11-22-2007

Im not good at explaining these things-but if you go to Photobucket from there you can go into your photos on your computer, down load 1,then copy the link you get and post it on a page here. Think thats right...confused myself!

BlackandYellow- 11-22-2007

yep you got that right Jean - Photobucket allows you to browse your own documents and then you upload them to your personal file. under the piccie I believe there will be 3/4 links - you need to copy the bottom one and paste it to your message. - it automatically then shows your photo!

suzic- 11-23-2007

hope this works -this is maxnot wanting to get his feet wet so he sits in the flower pot by the front door.

craskehouse- 11-23-2007

 Are you growing him in that pot? His lovely!

BlackandYellow- 11-24-2007

ARRRRRRR! He is soooo cute!

SheilaK9- 11-26-2007

He looks super. Glad he is settling, we are in the same boat really having adopted a rescue from LRRSE 3 weeks ago - but Rufous is a tad older - almost 4 so really set in his ways and can be a little stubborn. At least you have juvenile exuberance on your side! Good luck with him. It's hard work all of a sudden having 2 dogs to care for and walk don't you think? Still, twice the fun me thinks.

suzic- 11-26-2007

Yeah we had two dogs previously,my border collie died nearly two years ago and id forgotten the muddy garden factor but hey its fun watching max sliding around. All i can say is once you establish a routine with them it becomes second nature and both my dogs cassie and max are so loving i wouldnt be without them.Everyday max discovers something new and starts to bark at it which has me in stitches as normally its something stupid like leaves blowing off the trees.Good luck with rufous, remember if you have any worries LRRSE are really supportive.

That photo is great! You should send it in to our newsletter - it'd be great for the caption competition.

suzic- 12-03-2007

lillylab- 12-03-2007

Our newsletter is called Labrador Lovers News. Send a copy to Sue Birmingham sue.birmingham@btinternet.com asking her if it can be used for a caption commpetition. I think also there will be news soon of a "send us your photos" type competition for our newsletter so everyone else, get looking at your photos :D and sort out some good ones. To subscribe to Labrador Lovers News you need to click here http://www.labrador-rescue.org.uk/help.html and follow the "instructions" :) Murphy does look really cute sat on his "potty"
