mouthing
i did post a rather complicated plea for help on the lab advice page, but have had no replies. i am new to the forum. I would appreciate some tips but am far less anxious than I was in the early hours of sunday morning, when I was possibley a little mad. we have had the beautiful, big black Freddy since early December. he has settled in well and i think that he is happy. he is a bit of a tinker but very lovely. The problem which I am really concerned about is his mouthing. we have almost eliminated it in the house, but he has quite badly injured me a few times when we are out. It has only been directed at me, nobody else. he tends to go for my upper arms. he has ripped two coats and caused severe bruising. Things are getting better, the attacks are muched shorter and he does respond to sit, but he seems demented for a short period. I need to get on top of it quickly as we have three children. I have to trust him. We have fantastic and sympathetic support from the local dog training club. I just need every bit of advice. freddy's history is sparse. He was owned by a woman (I think that she had a partner). She gave him up because he did not like being left alone. We are not finding leaving him an issue, though it is not for the long periods that he was being left. Most of the time he is the most wonderful dog in the world. HELP, please!

Hi Andrea I'm sorry, I'd have answered you if I'd realised you'd posted under Lab Advice... I have put up a reply on your original post :D

Hi Andrea, when i first moved into my fiancees house 3 and half years ago, his puppy basil, black lab, did that with me, it is a ownership thing, we were told by vets to tell him to stop, be firm not loud, he stopped it less than 2 months later, all lasb mothers do it to them when they are puppies, it will stop

hi my lab did this when i got him to, the advice i got was roll up a newspaper cover it in celootape to prevent blacking the hands and everytime he does it tap on the nose with paper and tell him no. worked for me.
