Dog deodorant ?!!
Hi Just wondered if anyone knew of ANYTHING to pop on the super smelly Pepper dog? She comes home from her runs totally minging, she'll rub in anything smelly she finds whilst out. Thing is I thought bathing them frequently was not good for them and too be honest it destroys the bath room and kills my poor back from lifting her in and out of the tub. Also cos it's been so cold and wet i hate the thought of her shivering whilst she dries. She's a very short, wiry haired dog so worried about using the hairdryer on her too !! God she sounds totally pampered don't she ??? Anyway, is there a doggy deodoriser or dry shampoo you can use and if so has anyone tried it? Does it work and where oh where can I get some from ? Help please, cos my house stinks to high heaven again this morning! Poor old dog is confined to conservatory again as can't bear her in the lounge! Awaiting some fragrant replies ( I hope!) Anita

I do sympathise - Poppy occasionally rolls in poo and dead things. the worst was a decomposing badger, which was just a pile of fat and rotting flesh. She persuaded Boney it was a good idea and they were both covered with a stinking white fat that made me gag when they came within 10ft of me - and I had to drive them home  if they really stink I hose them down outside, use a mild dog shampoo and towel dry. Poppy has a little T-shirt that she can wear to keep warm. I did buy some dog wipes a while back - I think they were made by Simple Solution - which weren't bad. they were about the size of floor wipes and good for just getting off the odd bit of fox poo. If really serious about it...my friend has a proper dog hairdrier and she blow dries her cockers most days in winter

Mmm, I sympathise too, my two have a bit of a B.O. problem now and then  Someone suggested once (cant remember who or where) that if you brush through some oil of lavender not only does it make them smell nice but it deters the fleas too :) This is how I do it. I pour some warm water into a bowl and then put 4 or 5 drops of oil of lavender into the water. I dip a brush into the water and then keep brushing and dipping. Its quite good because you can see where you have brushed (assuming yor dog is dry to begin with) and they do smell rather nice afterwards.

I just use baby wipes on mine! Saves doing a whole wash and if they're gentle enough for a baby, they good enough for the dogs! They're not really wet enough for dogs to lick back off either.

A good deoudoriser for fox or other poo is tomato ketchup. Just get a nice big handful rub it all over the area making sure it gets right through the fur then just rince off. I just tend to hose my crew off with a hose and if extra dirty or smelly (big cow pats  ) Just use tea tree shampoo which works a treat ! One thing to do it work on your leave or no command as I normally spot if they are about to roll and use the command and most of the time stop them . It is when I am not taking notice of them that they tend to do it ! :D

Ahh - I know what you mean. Willow full well knows the leave command and pretends to be leaving what we don't want eaten, rolled in or whatever. You then carry on with your walk and she starts daudling away going slower and slower and then before you know it, quick as a flash she's trotting back to the offending article! what a little menace! Now that is clever!

I used to have a major problem with fox poo with my 2 until they realised that it meant coming home to hosing down and a bath. Touch wood they haven't indulged in over a year now. I just have an 'uh huh' voice that means' do not even think about it as you will be sorry'. Someone the other day in the park whose dog had indulged massively told me about the tomato ketchup remedy. It's good to pass these little titbits on for the rest of us. I have had to take drastic steps with my lawn. I've halved it with a hedge of box so the dogs own one half and we can have BBQs etc. near the yard end...I won't call it a patio as it's a yard...not at all patiolike. Cathy
