Collars
Had to remove Bens collar..His always worn a nylon collar,but I think it remained wet for to long after swimming one day and he had a small sore patch on his throat..This healed but he kept scratching it,now his has bald patches on his throat. Ive continued to leave his collar off when at home,he wears his halti while out but also has to wear a collar for his tags and to clip the halti too. Do you think a leather collar would be better? Someone once told me they went hard when wet,so I never used them.

I used to have leather collars and stopped using them as they went quite hard and scruffy and lost their colour. I have a big ( and I mean big :P ) selection of nylon web collars in many different colours and designs. If the collars get wet (which is quite often) I just remove them when we get home wait for the girls to dry off and put a fresh set on. Wash and dry the wet collars and they get put back onto the dog hooks in the boot room ready for the next change. If I were you I would leave the collar of if he is in the house and only put a collar on when you are going out with him. Also maybe worth put a barrier cream on if you go out to try and keep the wet of the patches to see if the hair will grow back.

Thanks Ive done all that,it started to regrow but his got into the habit off scratching! Lost more hair!! Its not sore any more.

Willow's first collar after we rescued her rubbed her rotten and that was just a nylon one. She hates collars and roughs herself up pretty bad if you put one on her. She has a material type one now and seems fine with that - mine don't wear collars when working anyway because of the risk of being hurt. Bought Finn a fab new one they other day though - bit expensive but very chuffed with it - Rod has to walk them at about half 4 in the morning and with him being black (Finn that is!) he isn't very visible! The new collar as 2 reflective strips with flashing lights through the middle! Whoooooo! flash sod eh! :roll: :roll:

It was from the local farm shop with has a pet section - the label says 'Signature' on one side and 'Ancol' on the other if that is any help Jean.

Ben has a signature lead,but the shop I got it from didnt have collars..Ill keep an eye open for them.
