Been to the Vets.
Went to the Vets today for Bens yearly jabs,I got her to check his ears and eyes as his been scratching his ears and wakes up with mucky eyes..These were all clear, then I got her to weigh him,his not over weight but at the top off his weight range so could lose a couple of lb. Then I got her to look at his leg as sometimes while running his just started to pick his back leg up,she said he may have mild hip dysplasia :( .Asked about his parents but of coarse we dont know anything about them. Said swimming is good,so guess it will be more trips to the gravel pit and less running in the woods :( He hates going to the Vets so much he wet him self!As soon as we were back in reception his back to his happy self!

Re: Been to the Vets.
The only way HD can be properly diagnosed in by an Xray so it may well just be a slight strain. Swimming is very good but also supplements with Glucosimine and Chlondrin are very good as is Green Lipped Mussel Extract which is a good natural anti inflamatory. Yes restricting running does help but you don't have to cut it down drastically so long as he enjoys a good run and he doesn't over do it all forms of excercise are ok in moderation. I use metacam very occasionally when Duds our 5 year old Lab who has severe HD is a bit uncomfortable. It is once in a blue moon when she has been on a very long walk and is normally a bit stiff for a day afterwards.

Thanks for the reply,im not to worried at the moment. The Vet said if Ben has to have an anaesthetic for any reason they would Xray then..Maybe ill get some cod liver oil or something,it may help-it cant hurt.

Sorry to hear Ben is suffering! I can recommend Green Lipped Muscle Extract - buy it at any health food shop - 500 or 1000mg usually - this kept our Bess going for about 2 years until we had to switch to Metacam.

I started Rosie on the Green lipped muscle extract last week to boost the Gluc and Cond and she's back to keeping up with Lucy again. She's 10 next month but like me doesn't act her age. I heard about it from the Battersea Park gossip line where everything good is passed around. I've even cut down the Metacam drastically as vet said to. Cathy

Thanks for your replys,Ive started adding cod liver oil to his meals. And apart from picking up his back leg now and then..when chasing the odd bunny  his fine. When I lead walk him,and he has to behave. He will come home and run like a grey hound round&round the garden!! So I dont think his in pain
