AAwwww!! The guilty feeling is awful but I keep telling myself its all for the best. Baxter will have to be castrated so will have to go through it all again but he will have a couple of months before we get him 'done'. I want him to get over this op first. What we go through for our animals!!

To all the Baxter fans out there, just to let you know that he had another visit to the vets on 30th Aug and was castrated poor boy. They also removed a small growth from inside his right eyelid so he is feeling a bit sorry for himself at the moment. He is curled up on a duvet in the lounge and having a little moan bless him. He is really a lovely dog with the most wonderful temperament. He is now 33kgs a bit different to the 25 kgs he arrived at. We have got rid of all that horrible ginger coarse hair and he has a gorgeous very soft, dark brown chocolate coat with a shine, which is thanks to the codliver oil and glucosamine. He is now over all his ops after his dental and small tumour being removed (luckily it wasn't cancerous), Will get some pics put on soon. Has anyone got any news of the lovely Campbell with some pics?? :D lots of luv Pat & Baxter xxx

Hi everyone, just thought I would give you an update on Baxter. He's a bit poorly at the moment. On Saturday morning he was wobbling around and his eyes were going from side to side (nystagmus) and he was very bewildered as to what had happened to him. I had a previous dog with the same symptoms and some of you might know about vestibular sydrome which is what he is suffering from. He had 3 dodgy days where he had to sleep on the sofa, he couldn't do the stairs. He went to the vets on saturday morning and started on some antibiotics and had to go back on monday morning for a steroid jab. They couldn't give him the steroid as he had had some metacam in the morning. Progress is slow but he is improving. He had a short 'wobble' about the cul de sac in the sunshine today which he enjoyed. About 10 days after he should be back near normal, may have a slight head tilt but fingers crossed he will continue to improve. It has not diminished his appetite though!! He is such a darling, just wish he didn't weigh 32 kg and I could carry him upstairs!! Would you believe I have had him for just over 8 months, but what a happy 8 months he has had. Regards, to all, Pat & Baxter

Hi Pat - you have done so much with this poor ol fella. Hope that his current probs soon diminish and that he continues to get better after all that he has been through so far. So lucky to have found you to look after his autumn years :D :D Wanted to ask how you administer the cod liver oil to Baxter as Rufous has joint problems and I would like to start both the dogs on this soon. Do you buy capsules or spoon it on to his food? They are already having Glyco flex 111 which contains the glycosamine along with other things. Anyhow, good luck going forward...

Thanks for your reply. I give one of the extra strength capsules to Baxter, most dogs will eat the oil if put on their food, I just find the capsules less messy. He is on glucosamine and was on metacam until the vets changed it last weekend. I do find those little savoury eggs ideal to push a tablet in to it and they eat, but haven't had to resort to that with Baxter. He has just had a little potter up the road. He loves being at the stables and having a wander and a sniff about the yard so may take him up tomorrow. He is getting a bit fed up being left behind!! Regards, Pat and Baxter

Hi Lisa, thanks for your good wishes. Baxter did come up to the stables this morning and pottered about in the sunshine and I think he really enjoyed it, so he didn't overdo things I put him on a horse rug and he laid down and watched everyone while we saw to the horses. He slept for about 2 hours when we got home!! I am just hoping he continues to improve, its such a worry these old dogs especially when their age is uncertain and also medical history unknown. He is a lot happier in himself and I am sure he would say a big hello to everyone if he could especially his rescuers! Best wishes Pat and Baxter.
