Hi everyone, I am Baxter's new 'mummy' and I thought you might like to hear how he's doing. As you can see he was not in a good state when I picked him up. He was about 25kg, terrible coat and very thin. I now have a different dog, gone is the smelly matted coat, he is now nearly 30 kgs and is a really friendly old boy. He didn't know he had a dog bed with a duvet, he just slept at the bottom of my bed on the carpet, but now he happily goes to sleep in his big dog bed. :D
He will be having the 2nd of his vaccs next week and will have to have a dental as he has 2 loose teeth at the front and rotten ones at the back which need to be removed. At a later date he will have to be castrated. We think he is also deaf, the vet could not see the ear drum due to all the gunk in there so he has had cleaner and drops in there so I am hoping he will be able to hear a bit better. He loves it up at the stables and never wanders far and he is lovely to walk on the lead. He has started on cod liver oil and glucosamine for his joints as he's an old boy, and it has improved his coat no end.
I have been wondering what happened to Campbell that travelled down with Baxter, hoping he has found a home. Would love to hear if anyone has any news.

Went to see Baxter today....what a lovely boy he is, so gentle and laid back. He has settled into his new home like he has been there always, just no trouble at all.
He has put on some weight now and looks just like a big cuddly teddy bear. His ears have had lots of "gunk" cleared out of them and his new mum has groomed and clipped a load of almost dead hair off him. He has to have a dental as he has some lose rotten teeth, his blood -*test*-('")s have come back clear, and now he has put on some weight the vet is happy to do his other ops. He needs a suspicious lump removing from his shoulder and he will be castrated too. I am sure once all that has been done he will be feeling a lot more comfortable, especially once he has had his teeth done.
I cant think of a better home for him, he has really landed on his feet. He loves his new bed, and sleeps upstairs in the bedroom at night
If someone can explain how to put a photo on here I will attempt to post some I took of him today

What a lovely lovely boy - tears in my eyes - I have severe pms but it doesn't take a lot with me anyway!

Just to let you know that Baxter had an op yesterday and he had 3 of his big back teeth out and 2 at the front. His remaining teeth were descaled. He also had the small lump removed from his shoulder which has been sent away for a report on it. He was feeling very sorry for himself when he came home from the vets yesterday and a bit wobbly. He had his chicken and rice and mush biscuits and he scoffed the lot about 9pm. He's also scoffed his 3 meals today, so although he has stitches in his gums it's not spoiling his appetite!!
He's back at the vets in the morning for a check up. He is enjoying all the fuss and pampering despite giving me a bit of a sleepless night having a whine and a moan, he must have been feeling sore poor old boy. Give it another 24hrs and he will be back to his old self. We may even go out for a very short walk if its not raining too much. Will keep you posted, and thank you for all your interest, he thinks he's a celebrity now!! 8)
Still no news of Campbell????? :?:

The whine may just be the anaesthetic in his system.Im sure your pleased its all over and done with!
Pat Kelly- 06-30-2007
Yes, it must have been the anaethestic - he slept like a baby last night and so did I !!! :) . The noise he made was so pitiful and I felt awful for putting him through it. Off for his check up later.
