any ideas- max-ulcerated inner ear/burst ear drum hi peeps, u may remember max my lab who trod on some spikes and has been left with permanant damage to his paw, well now we have another problem, on thursday there was yellow pus coming out of his ear so we went to the vets on friday who gave us some drops as they thought they could see a yellow foreign body in his ear but said his ear drum was still intact and to try the drops over the weekend to see if that would dislodge whatever it was and to bring him back this morning to see if it had worked, low and behold there wasnt any improvement so they have given him an anstheic(sorry cant spell) and it turns out that his inner ear has a rupurted abcess and his inner ear is full of yellow pus, they say his ear drum is no longer intact in fact they cant see it at all and are telling me that it may or may not heal but in the mean time he is now deaf in that ear, they have saline solutioned it to remove as much infection as they can and put him on painkillers and antibiotics but cannot say if this will work , they say he may need to have his inner and middle ear removed and sewn up.
Sorry to go on but i cant understand how this has happened i check his ears on a weekly basis and they have always been clean and free from dirt, he showed no signs of anything until thursday and we took him to the vets asap, we have only had him 7months but has never had any ear probs in that time, does anyone have any exprience of this sort of thing and would it be best for him to have the op on his ears or wait and see if it recurrers first? he has been through so much already and i dont want him to keep suffering.

Hi there
I'm so sorry to hear how your poor lad is suffering again. It is just awful that you and he are going through yet another terrible time.
I'm afraid I don't have any advice I can give. It does sound as if your vet is suggesting that you wait and see if the current treatment works, before doing any kind of operation. I very much hope that it does work and that your poor dog is soon on the mend.
Loads of healing thoughts being sent in your direction
Good luck to you both
